Cobham, June 2011
South African youth choir, Pro Cantu, will be performing in Surrey for one night only in what will undoubtedly be a truly memorable evening.
As part of a European Tour which sees the choir performing at magnificent UK venues such as Bath Abbey and Salisbury Cathedral before travelling to Austria to compete in the 2nd Grand Prix of Choir Music, Pro Cantu will be staging a charity concert at 8.30pm in the Christ the Prince of Peace Church, Portmore Way, Weybridge, KT13 8JD on Saturday 2nd July.
This special concert has been organised with the assistance of Cobham-based Elmbridge Community Music Society, whose members are also providing accommodation for the visiting choristers. "It is an honour and a privilege to be playing host to such an awesome choir. We can't wait for the concert and anticipate that tickets will sell out very fast!" says Cliff van Tonder, Founder and CEO of Elmbridge Music.
Pro Cantu, whose members range from age 14 to 25, has proved itself both in South Africa and on the international stage, picking up awards and winning major choral festivals. Since 1997 Pro Cantu has toured all over the world winning gold medals and earning itself substantial accolades, including the title ‘Choir of the World' at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in Wales, and being named ‘World Choir Games Champion' at the 5th World Choir Games in Austria.
The repertoire of Pro Cantu has enabled the choir to present a programme of varied choral works over the years - Renaissance to varied folk song traditions to challenging 20th century choir music.
This concert is definitely not to be missed!
