16 May 2009 - Elmbridge Choir hosts 'Eurovision' Party for Oasis

on .

Inspired by the BBC's Your Country Needs You which sought to  find the act to represent the UK in the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow in May, Elmbridge Choir Founder and Musical Director, Cliff van Tonder, decided to hold a Eurovision Party to bring together the many people who had avidly watched the show and to raise money for Cobham-based Oasis Childcare, which works with vulnerable children and their families throughout Elmbridge.

As Cliff says "Living in Elmbridge and particularly Cobham, it's hard to imagine that there are some families and children who are in critically dysfunctional family situations, some single parents, those with alcoholic and/or drug dependencies and those in severe financial hardship.  Celebrating Eurovision, representing the family that is the many nations of Europe with shared values and ambitions, seemed an ideal way to help others".

The evening, hosted by QuizMaster Stephen Dibley, will feature real-time Eurovision action on wide screen TV, Eurovision-themed rounds, including hit music from the competition's 53 year history, general knowledge, music and Europe related rounds and some brain-teasers he's not willing to divulge. "I've been building and hosting quizzes for some 25 years now, initially hosting inter-branch quiz nights for my colleagues and it's grown since then.  It's a great way to bring people together and enable them to engage with their local communities and causes, whilst having a fun and a good time ".

Event organiser, Amanda Fisackerly says "Elmbridge Choir is well-known for its support of local causes and communities and we're hoping that this event will really strike a chord with everyone - supporting a valuable local charity, supporting our UK contender, Jade Ewen and bringing a much needed 'feel-good' factor to all who attend.  With only 180 tickets available, priced at £7.00 including all the entertainment and supper, we know they'll sell fast and we're expecting a great turnout."

Tickets can be bought from our website at http://www.elmbridgechoir.co.uk/eurovisionparty.html

Saturday 16th May - 7.30pm - Cobham Village Hall, Lushington Drive , Cobham, KT11 2LU
