Dale Thomas - Musical Director of Elmbridge Ladies Choir
Dale Thomas was appointed as Musical Director of the Elmbridge Ladies Choir in January 2011. Although new to conducting when she took on this role, she has sung for many years in choirs in her school, university, church, and community, and also has experience in musical theatre.
A primary school teacher by profession, Dale thoroughly enjoys combining her passions for education and music in her work with the Ladies Choir. Under her leadership the choir has flourished and has grown to a staggering 100 ladies, and through her efforts they recently achieved a Bronze medal at the 2011 Krakow International Advent Festival.
Raised in Texas, Dale moved to the UK with her husband and four children in 2006. She has found the choir to be a fantastic way to get involved in the local community and to meet a wonderful mix of people from all walks of life. She is hugely thankful to Cliff van Tonder and the women of the Ladies Choir for giving her the opportunity to stretch her own abilities and learn something new, and she’s tremendously proud of the ladies of the choir for challenging themselves in the same way.
With Dale's encouragement and training, the choir has gradually moved to performing without their sheet music, in order to immerse themselves more fully in the musical experience and to engage more with their audiences. Dale emphasises fun and community at rehearsals, resulting in more cohesive, committed performances from the choir, as well.
