Elmbridge Ladies Choir 2017 - a year in review

on .

2017 has been a year of great change for Elmbridge Ladies Choir.

When in January we started learning new songs for our repertoire, looking forward to performing them at the ‘Razzle Dazzle’ concert in June, little did we know that the concert would be Dale’s last as our Musical Director as she was returning to the USA in July. The concert was fantastic but very emotional as we said our goodbyes to Dale. However, we were also delighted to introduce our new MD, Chris Parker, who left the ranks of the Sopranos to take up her new role.

After a wonderful farewell party for Dale, we started to prepare new songs and old to perform at Walton Xcel Leisure Complex at their 'Active Every Day' event. This was Chris’s first official outing as Musical Director and the first outing for our brand new eye-catching sail flag!

The event also served as a warm up for Chris to lead the choir on tour in Malta, where forty of our ladies sang their hearts out in churches, cathedrals and the streets and open stage of Valletta! We shared the Malta experience with Elmbridge Choir and Vox Mundi, and as new friendships were formed we laughed until we ached!

The joy was shared with friends and family at home as we recalled some of these songs at our festive concert in December.

Finally, we held a ‘Bring a Friend to Choir’ evening, where some 16 friends joined us for some seasonal singing, some of whom we are hoping have been inspired to join us, which is wonderful!

And so we look forward to 2018 with more music and friendship, and learning new songs to share at our next concert. Keep an eye on our website and on our Facebook page for concert details. A very Healthy, Happy and Musical New Year to you all!

Surrey Voices Shine in Malta

Ladies Choir in Valletta parade

Surrey was well represented in Malta last week as three local choirs travelled together to take part in the 23rd International Choir Festival.

An impressive party of 195 singers and supporters from Surrey Music’s two community choirs (Elmbridge Choir and Elmbridge Ladies Choir), together with Vox Mundi International Ladies Choir from Egham, enjoyed a five-day trip full of sightseeing and singing.

Dale's Swansong a Spectacular Success

Surrey Music’s ‘Razzle Dazzle’ charity concert on Saturday night at Addlestone Community Centre evoked a mix of emotions for the society’s members and audience alike.

Whilst the two community choirs were delighted to be performing and to be raising money for yourSanctuary (a charity which supports victims of domestic abuse), the evening was tinged with sadness as it was the last time Elmbridge Ladies Choir’s Musical Director, Dale Thomas, would be conducting the choir.

Snowball hits the spot!

There was no doubt that Christmas had arrived in Claygate last weekend as the 200-plus voices of Surrey Music performed a seasonal spectacular, ‘Make Mine a Snowball!’ at Holy Trinity Church.

While the audience of 350 enjoyed a varied festive programme from Elmbridge Ladies Choir and Elmbridge Choir, a dazzling light and visual show created a magical ambience within the church.

Rockin' and Rollin' by the River

on .

Despite the disappointingly dull weather on Saturday evening, Elmbridge Ladies Choir was in fine form, entertaining a lively and appreciative audience of 130 at Molesey Amateur Regatta.

Showcasing no less than 18 songs from the choir’s wide-ranging repertoire, the ladies sang with spirit and with feeling, the informal marquee setting perfectly suited to the friendly nature of the choir. Spot-on harmonies and great solos, quiet humour and charm from the choir’s very capable Musical Director Dale Thomas, provided the audience with a thoroughly splendid and memorable evening.

Surrey Music and Elmbridge Ladies Choir are delighted that ‘Rollin’ by the River’ raised £550 for Woking Hospice, a charity close to the heart of many of the society members.
