A care worker from Banstead has been so inspired by the public’s positive response to the caring profession during the Covid-19 crisis, that she has put pen to paper to write the lyrics for a charity single, “We Are Here”.
Ingrid Clift, from Home Counties Carers in East Horsley, penned the lyrics during the peak of the pandemic and asked her talented friend and care colleague, Kathryn Rachel Harris, to write the accompanying music.
“The inspiration for the lyrics came from a place of pure pride in the care sector as we worked through the lockdown," explains Ingrid. “Suddenly, at long last, carers were seen as the true heroes that they are - acknowledged, admired, appreciated, applauded. The carers I work with and community NHS staff just step up selflessly on a daily basis. Care comes first, no matter what, our duty of care is to those who depend on us, to those who are waiting for us, to those who trust us - We Are Here!”
Having written the song, Ingrid approached Surrey Music for advice, who in turn introduced her to Rachel Mason, a multi-award winning singer/songwriter, who willingly agreed to record the song, with a little help from her friends Lizzie Evans and Emma Mason.
“Ingrid came across as a breath of fresh air with her positive attitude, her enthusiasm and her obvious pride in her career as a carer”, explains Debbie Groves from Surrey Music. “We felt we really wanted to support her and had no hesitation in introducing her to Rachel who we were sure would help – and help she did! The finished single is amazing!”
Founder and CEO of Surrey Music, Cliff van Tonder adds, “In times of need it is heart-warming to see the community pulling together and supporting each other. Projects like these touch our hearts, and Ingrid and Kathryn should be very, very proud of themselves.”
Ingrid has set up a JustGiving page to raise funds for The Care Workers’ Charity, an organisation which supports the welfare of current and retired care workers. "We've chosen to support The Care Workers' Charity because of the great work they do in representing and advocating on behalf of care workers.
